During the 1930’s and 40’s processed food manufactures created cook books with recipes that encouraged consumers to use their products (ie; add 6 cup of…, or stir in 3 boxes of… etc).

The Hot Dog Queen, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, (born July 18th, 1936) and Nathan’s hot dog eating contest (July 4th) are a few examples of early hot dog promotional ideas.

The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council created National Hot Dog Day on July 23rd (and later, National Hot Dog Month) as a way to encourage people to eat more hot dogs.
